FAQs

Q?

Why should I use plastic edgings?

A.

There many reasons and here are a few:

  • Safety, simplicity, and cost are among the most important.
  • Aside from not using any edging at all, plastic is the only safe option to install in an area where people and/or animals may be present. Most other edgings may pose a serious injury or liability risk when they become exposed (see our photo gallery for examples).
  • Our edgings are easy to manage, transport, and install. You do not need heavy equipment or expensive tools to cut or bend Polyethylene or PVC edgings. Due to an intentionally simple design, staking through plastic edging is easy and effective for keeping it in the ground where it belongs.
  • Plastic is the most cost effective option available. Remember, not all plastic is the same. There is an abundant amount of poor quality material out there that will not hold up once installed. Learn about what our edgings are made of on the 'Plastic Edging Facts' section of this site.

Q?

Can I buy direct from Oly-Ola or do I need to work with a distributor?

A.

We have a vast domestic and international dealer/distribution network. We are eager to help you find the closest dealer/distributor, and provide you up-to-date and relevant contact information.

For instances when a distributor/dealer is not in close proximity, we will work direct with landscape contractors, architects and designers to make sure our products are within reach.

Feel free to contact our sales office at 800-334-4647 and provide us with your city, state and zip code.

Q?

What is your minimum order?

A.

There is not a simple answer to this question since our products are uniquely packaged and come in various lengths/varieties.

Generally speaking, our paver restraints have a 90 ft. minimum order while lawn edgings have a 500 ft. minimum.

We work with our customers to meet their edging needs while trying hard provide cost effective options in regards to packaging and shipping.

Call us at 800-334-4647 and we will be pleased to determine the right order size for your project or stock.

Q?

Can I find your products at the local big box chains?

A.

Since we manufacture 'true' commercial grade plastic edgings, we do NOT make products that compete at the big box price range. The only way to provide a product at such a cost would be to reduce the material or the quality of the material.

We manufacture edgings that last and are backed by our 100% Plus 20-year Guarantee.

There is a market for retail grade but Oly-Ola edgings do not fit that bill. If you are a serious landscape professional, Oly-Ola edgings will cost a bit more up front but will save you big dollars along the way by minimizing complaints and repair work.

Q?

Are edgings 100% recycled? If so, what type of recycled content?

A.

Yes.

All Oly-Ola edgings are made of 100% recycled materials (either polyethylene or PVC).  The majority of our recycled materials come from post-consumer plastics and is purchased from a consistent commercial supplier.

Q?

Do I have to use Oly-Ola steel stakes when installing Oly-Ola edgings?

A.

No.

You are not limited to only using Oly-Ola stakes unless it is our specialized 14 inch Super-EdgTM stake.

In the beginning, we only sold edgings and left stakes to the installer's discretion. Through various complaints and testing, we quickly found that most of the stakes on the market were weak and ineffective. We did not want our high quality edging to suffer or be limited by the stakes the installer used, so we worked with a metal fabricator to engineer a highly effective, non-bending stake that complimented our professional grade products.

If you do choose to purchase stakes elsewhere, we highly recommend using a strong, NON-galvanized spike, stake or nail. Galvanized stakes tend to work their way out of the ground with freezing and thawing. Non-galvanized steel stakes will oxidize below grade which allows the surrounding ground materials to adhere better to the stake.  This process gives the stake and edgings more staying power to remain in the ground.

Our stake pricing is competitive and they are sold at a discount when purchased in conjunction with our edgings.

Q?

Is the 100 ft roll of Super-Edg good for straight runs?

A.

We recommend using the 100 foot roll of Super-EdgTM for long continuous curves.

Super-EdgTM is rolled immediately as it is extruded from the machine and is still very warm. Once it cools, Super-EdgTM retains the memory of being rolled.

If you wish to make a straight line, it is best to start with the 20 ft. flat pieces of Super-EdgTM. The 20 ft pieces cool in a straight line therefore they do not retain the memory of being rolled.

Q?

Do any of your edgings qualify for or contribute toward LEED benefits?

A.

Yes.

In addition to being lightweight, durable and cost-effective, Teco-EdgTM is made from 100% recycled post-consumer material, contributing towards achieving higher Recycled Content credits in the USGBC's LEED Rating System.
